The History of Fudge

Fudge was invented in America, but Fudge Day is a Global Celebration! The exact origin and date when fudge was invented is not exact. Some stories say that it originated from an accident with a “fudged” batch of caramel after the sugar recrystallized and the maker said “oh, fudge!” The original recipes of fudge were delicate with precise measurements, constant stirring and exact cooking times to create the perfect creamy consistency. 

The recipe may seem really simple, but it requires a candy thermometer and consistent stirring while it cools so that a smooth creamy texture can be achieved. Some home recipes include corn syrup which prevents the crystallization and makes it easier to create a smooth fudge. Other recipes may include sweetened condensed milk or other milk or cream ingredients to produce a creamier fudge. But these do not create the perfect original recipe fudge!

As an enthusiast of celebrating sweet foods, our Tare-team started celebrating Fudge Day to celebrate this amazing smooth treat that anyone with a sweet tooth can not resist! We started celebrating Fudge Day in 2004 and it was officially designated by HolidaySmart.com‘s Holiday Registrar in 2007. While some websites want to change the name to National Fudge Day, the day is intended to be celebrated globally. Since it has become known worldwide, the name has been more popularly and appropriately called Fabulous Fudge Day.
